Tributes - Stories

One saturday afternoon in the late 70s Bob and I and his son Nick, who was about 5 years old at the time were having a walk around Hamilton. We ended up outside Marist Brothers High School, and seeing as we both went to school there, we decided to wander in and have a look around.

Shortly after,, we were approached by one of the Marist Brothers who wanted to know what we were doing in the school yard.

Bob said that we were both old boys. The brother said " Oh that's OK then, are you showing your young son the ropes ? "

Bob said " You have got to be fucking kidding " and we left.=

The first time I met Bobby was when he was playing at The Wicko over 30 years ago. He played Donovan’s Season of The Witch in the style of the 1968 record Super Session ..(Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills)..a fav of mine. As a bit of fun I would always greet Bobby by saying Season of Witch and he would smile.

The last time I ran into Bobby was in the Aldi carpark Mayfield and he was brimming with enthusiasm about a Rockwells recording project. I was dismayed about his stroke and we discussed him taking up the lap steel or Theremin.

RIP Bobby and thanks for your great sound.
